    Čtvrtý svazek Foucaultových Dějin sexuality, Doznání těla, byl publikován roku 2018. Ve Francii i ve světě se vydání tohoto čtvrtého dílu stalo skutečnou událostí, neboť teprve díky němu je nyní celý projekt Dějin sexuality kompletní a plně srozumitelný. Hlavním tématem Foucaultova spisu je formování zkušenosti sexuality – v návaznosti na antiku, avšak s mnohými originálními přesahy – v prvních staletích křesťanství, tedy v dílech církevních otců. Foucaultova kniha má podobu rozsáhlé fresky, v níž je téma sexuality začleněno do složitého historického i myšlenkového kontextu, který autor ve svých pozdních textech označuje souhrnným názvem „estetika existence“.
